In the fall of 1861, tragedy struck 5 families in the SW portion of Greene County. This tragedy magnified and encompassed all of East Tennessee. On the following pages Donahue Bible reports on this tragedy most people refer to as the incident of the "Pottertown Bridge Burners." I'd like to take this time to thank Donahue to allow me to include this on the Greene County Genealogy site, although for me thank you isn't enough words. The pages were taken from a manuscript he put together in 1997 titled "THEIR EYES HAVE SEEN THE GLORY. . . EAST TENNESSEE UNIONISTS IN THE CIVIL WAR . . 1861-1865" and used with his permission.
