named Martha Bales who married a John King.  One of their children was
Rosa Bedelle King who was born in September 1900 and raised by
Odell (name he mostly went by) and Elizabeth when her mother
died after her birth in 1900. Am looking to confirm info on Odell
Bales/Elizabeth Simpson and their ancestors/relatives.  Rosa
married Azor Thomason and had the following children:  Alice
Margaret Thomason (1923), Gladys Thomason, Victor Thomason, James (BB)
Thomason.  Azor's parents were William S. Thomason and Hannah M.-

the Wheelers. I have been told of a Wheeler's Mountain in Green Co., that
is where they came from, any information on the Wheelers.
His son Daniel Horton Bales married Sarah Katherine Fowler, she was born
in Greene Co., in 1862, she had a brother James W. Fowler and William B.
Fowler, they all came to Collin County, Texas in early 1900's does any
one know who Sarah Katherine Fowler's mother and father were??

Greetings.
I just found your web site while browsing for material for a class I
teach at a local college on internet webpage design. I am currently a
part-time computer program instructor but have spent years with our
family research. I have material on the Campbell family from Greeneville,
Greene County, Tenn. I realize that Greeneville is on the east side of the
state from you but some of the family remained in Tennessee when Wyly and
William Alexander Campbell migrated to Kansas in 1878 after the War
Between the States. William married Pharaba Hawkins (Pherby)daughter of
Samuel B. Hawkins who served in the Revolutionary War. Wyly's son,
Archibald, married into a CSA family and died at the seige of Vicksburg.
I know I'm being sketchy but would love to hear from anyone also
researching the Campbell and related family lines.
I hope more historical and genealogical societies follow your example in
posting material on the WWW. Thanks for the site.

I am looking for information on HUGH CARTER born August 14, 1832 in
Greene County, TN. Hugh Carter moved to Texas when he was 17 years old.
Hugh married Mary Emly ? on February 7 1868 in Cherokee County, TX.  Hugh
was a Confederate soldier from Henderson County, Texas and served as a
Corporal and Private in Company K, 4th Texas Infantry.  He was captured
December 18, 1863 near Knoxville, TN and exchanged at New Orleans May 23,
1863.
Hugh and Mary Emly Carter had three children:
#1    Sallie Bama Carter  b. September 29, 1870  TX
#2    Hugh B. Carter  b. January 3, 1874   TX
#3    Telulah Carter  b.  April 2, 1877   TX   died Feb 1, 1890 in
Henderson Co., TX
I understand that there are other HUGH CARTERS that resided in Green
County, TN.  More than likely my Hugh Carter is a link to their families.
He is also somehow linked with James Walling of TN.  In the 1860 Census
of Henderson County, TX my Hugh Carter was listed as living in the
household of a James Walling of TN with a William Carter, age 19.

I believe my ancestor Adam COOK who m. Catherine OTTINGER was a
grandson of George A. COOK d. 1815 Greene Co.  I do not yet know
Adam's father--he is most likely John or George.  Adam stayed in
Greene County until the late 1840's when he moved with his family
to Platte County, MO.  In MO he lived near OTTINGERs, MASONERs,
and NEESE's.  In TN he also lived near these families as well as

Looking for any information on descendants and ancestors of Michael
GIRDNER, Sr and wife Huldah BEECH.  Michael Sr.'s will (1815) in German
indicates he was German-speaking.  Huldah's oldest son, Conrad, was born
in 1787 in Northampton, PA.  The second, Micheal Jr. was born in 1795 in
Greene Co, TN as well as younger siblings, Sally, George and Nancy (1805-
1900).  Upon Michael Sr.'s death, Huldah married Lewis BALL (d.1832) in
Greene Co, had 6 more children, believed she spent last days in
Monroe Co,TN with son Michael GIRDNER, Jr. after Lewis BALL's death. It
has been suggested that the Girdner surname is an anglicization of
GO"RTNER (GOERTNER) or other variations as Gaertner (GA"RTNER)
which is the German equivalent of Gardener.  I have seen spellings in
American records of Gardner, Girtner, Gartner that all refer to Girdners
of TN.

Abigail Bailey, then married Mary Justus.  He died in Ripley Co.
Missouri on Oct 6, 1844.  His children by Abigail were John,
Elizabeth, Mary, Daniel, David, William M., Absolom, and Andy.
He had three other children by Mary.  Any information on his

the sister of Phillip Howell. Mary married A.D. Gibson in 1850 while

married by the same clergyman.
Mary is listed as "Polly" in the census while she was a member
of John's household.

in Washington Co., TN until 1830 when he shows up in the Greene Co.,
TN census.  He and his family removed to Monroe Co., KY abt. 1852.

My great-grandfather was Wiley Morgan, son of Thomas Morgan and wife
Rachel Pressley of Greene Co., Tn.  On the 1850 Census this Thomas Morgan
is living near another Morgan with the same name.  Earlier census records
put him close to Thomas Morgan (1754-1845).  I always thought that I came
through Thomas, Thomas, Thomas, Wiley but now understand that the second
Thomas left Green Co. and I have nothing on the other son who apparently
remained in Green Co., i.e. Lewis Morgan.  Years ago I heard that there
was or had been a Morgan bible that had some more information.  Is there
any member of the family that has additional information?

father) was Malando MCKEEHAN of Clare Co, Ireland.  He married Nancy

Greene Co, TN in 1820.  Had first child, Charles Coffner, in MonroeCo, TN
1821.  Family was in Bradley Co for 1860 census.  The last record of him
is when Landon C. McKeehan sold 120 acres on which he resided in the
Ocoee District of Bradley Co, TN to James Biggs in Jul 1860 (deed recorded

I am trying to locate my g.grandfather's parents.  Joseph Morton
Sheets was born 10/18/1873 in Greeneville.  He married Nancy C.
Harrison in 1898, lived at the old Harrison home and operated a
small store before moving to Bristol in 1906.  He died 2/16/1937
in Bristol.  The only info I have concerning his parents is that
his father's name was Cal Sheets and his mother's name was Jane
Susong.  I located a William C. Sheats married to a Margaret J.
Susong in December, 1869.  I am assuming that these are the same
people.  I am not able to get to TN to research personally and
have joined the different societies in the areas but have not had
a lot of luck with the Sheets and Susong names.  There is a home
on Irish Street that is a historical home built in 1850 called
the Sheets home.  I can not find anything on it either.  Would
appreciate any information concerning this home.

while much of his family remained there his grandson, through
