ROBERTS, MOYERS, DODSON

My ancestor, John ROBERTS, first appears in the 1783 tax list. He married Phebe MOYERS, a daughter of Adam Moyers, in 1790. I do not know John's parents, I do not know his residence prior to what is now Greene County. There is also a James ROBERTS who purchased 500 acres in 1786 on what is now Old Milburnton Road. I feel that the two are related but cannot connect. Other ROBERTS living in the area were Jonathan (1789 will in Hawkins County witnessed by John, Moses Dodson (married Sarah Roberts) and a MOONEY, William, and Jesse.
 Any information about this family would penetrate my brick wall and would be greatly appreciated.

BULLER

My ancestor was Adam BULLER. He married Nancy Roberts Kirtley in Greene County in 1822. They had three sons: Arthur Severe Buller, John Valentine Buller, and Alfred Madison Buller. Nancy, with her three sons, moved to Logan County Ohio about 1830 together with parents and siblings. Apparently Adam was deceased. Nothing else is known about Adam. Could he be related to Christopher or Joseph Buller whose names are connected with Wataugah? I have never been able to find information. Would greatly appreciate any information.

Looking for any information on Margaret (Peggy) FRANCES, who married Shadrack CROSS on 2 Jan 1808 in Greene County. Peggy & Shadrack had 5 sons: Francis Marion, Andrew Jackson, Micajah, Henry C(lay?), and Benjamin F(ranklin?). MORRIS, CROSS

Searching for information on Lydia MORRIS, wife of Henry CROSS, early settler of Greene Co & recipient of NC Land grants in the Lick Creek area. Family tradition has her father as Shadrack MORRIS & mother as Ruth. A Shadrack Morris is also frequently found in early Greene Co records, but his age seems more appropriate as a brother, rather than father of Lydia. Known children of Lydia and Henry CROSS were Shadrack, b. abt 1783, and Dorcas. In a Goodspeed interview abt 1899, grandson Francis M. Cross stated that his grandparents were both from Maryland. If correct, this casts further doubt on Shadrack Morris as Lydia's father as he is believed to be a native of Tennessee. Would appreciate any confirmation (or debunking) of Lydia's relationship to Shadrack Morris and her birthplace - MD or TN.

With children SAMUEL age 8, WILLIAM age 6 ROBERT age 4 , JAMES age 3 , ANDREW age 1 born ,MARTHA age 6/12 ALLEN T. JOHNSON (m) MARY WOOLHAVER in Greene co. Tn. The 1850 Census is the only time that ALLEN T. JOHNSON is listed as born in Georgia, but there is another listed as born in Georgia. This is WILLIAM JOHNSON with wife MARTHA and children ROBERT, MARGARET, HENRY, ELIZABETH and THOMAS. Need information on this family . Father of ALLEN T. JOHNSON or anyone working on this family. The family remained in Greene Co. until something happened during or after the Civil War. It is stated by ALLEN T. in his later years that they had to leave Tn. These BORDEN men in in Green Co. TN in 1797 involved in land deals: Jacob BORDEN, George BORDEN, John B. BORDEN, Augustine BORDEN. Jacob's wife was Mary. SKILES, SKYLES

I believe that my great great grandfather, Ephraim L. SKILES was born in Greene Co., TN about 1805. I believe that he may have been living in Bledsoe Co TN in 1830, and Walker Co GA in 1840. I have evidence that he lived in Harrison County Texas in 1850, and died near Hallsville, Harrison Co., Texas before 1860. I don't know who his parents were, or the names of any brothers or sisters. There were at least three Skiles / Skyles families living in Greene Co TN around 1800. I am pretty sure he does NOT belong to the William SKYLES -- Lydda CHADWELL family, and probably NOT the Ephraim SKILES -- Ipsabah WOOLSEY family (they were married in 1808). There is a third SKILES family in Greene Co TN at that time, a William SKILES and Elizabeth Miller who were married in 1801 in Greene Co. There may have been more Skiles families in Greene Co. around that time as well. I'm looking for any information you may have on Ephraim L. Skiles, his family and parents. His wife's name was Mary and they had 12 children,

LEEPER

Lewis Feltnor LEEPER (1810-1888) lived in Hamblen Co. most of his life. His father was Matthew LEEPER located across the county line in Jefferson at Muddy Creek. I am looking for Matthew Leeper's wife and the names of their parents. Do you have a copy of the 1870 and 1880 Hamblen Co. census? Lewis or his siblings Peyton C. and William K. may have listed their parent's names and birthplaces. There is a chance that Matthew LEEPER's wife was a Native American. I lack a carabelle cusp which indicates that lineage, and Matthew's wife and both their parents are the only unknown relatives. Any leads will be greatly appreciated.

MCKEE/KEY

I am looking for anyone who can help solve a mystery. I have a family of Keys who lived in Greene County but I believe the name was really MC KEE. I know at least some used KEY instead. BOLES, BOWLES, BOWLS, ETC.

Looking for information on BOLES, BOWLES, BOWLS, etc. My research has been in Rhea and Greene Counties. My great-grandfather, Henry Jackson BOLES, lived, died, and is buried in Rhea country. I do not know where his father, William R. BOLES, lived or is buried, but have traced other family members to Greene County. The names I am looking for are: Jesse, Jacob, George, John, David, Daniel, and Hiram BOLES/BOWLES, but I need to know which one is William's father. Jesse, John, Daniel, and Hiram are on the 1850 Greene County census. Would appreciate help from anyone researching this family in TN.

MILLIGAN

I am seeking information on a Charles Milligan who lived in District 10, Greene County, TN during the 1850 Census. He may have left TN soon afterward and settled in Independence County, AR. He may have had brothers named Armstead Washington Milligan (married Martha Loveday in Anderson County, TN in June 1849) who settled in Independence County, AR by 1853, and John B. Milligan who also settled in Independence County by 1860. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

HANEY

I was told by my grandmother that we had the proud blood of the cherokee. Her name was Ruby, her father was James Monroe, his father was George W. George was born in1816, James in1845, & Ruby in 1887.All in Greene Co.This is all I know about them . CHARLTON

I have recently been told that Elizabeth CHARLTON was born in Greene Co. Tenn, 1806. It is believed she is related to Simpson CHARLTON, and possibly Napolean Bonaparte CHARLTON. She moved to Clark Co. Indiana at some point, and married William BALL there in 1828. Any information would be greatly appreciated

JOHNSON, STANFIELD

Jesse JOHNSON married Anne STANFIELD in Greene Co.,Tenn. in 1796. A Greene Co. court case in 1791 mentions a Jesse JOHNSON. This court case states he had a brother Benjamin that died in New Kent Co., Va. Are these two Jesse Johnsons the same person? Looking for the parents of Jesse.
